About the event

Join us for a mock funeral procession and die-in at Kingston to demonstrate that the climate crisis threatens all life on earth.  Together let's make it clear we want our governments to choose life and take immediate action on the climate crisis.  Gas is a dangerous fossil fuel that will turbocharge the climate crisis and we demand zero emissions by 2025.

Please RSVP and meet at 12.30pm at Norgrove Park (southern end of Kingston foreshore off Eyre Street). From there we will have a funeral procession along the cafe strip and walk slowly together up to Bowen Park on the lake (1 - 1.5 km). In Bowen Park we will hold a a 'die-in' to mourn for our world and our global family. At  the die-in, we will lie on the ground as if dead, to demonstrate that our current situation is threatening humanity and all life on earth.

If possible, bring a yoga mat to lie on, as the ground may be hard! We encourage you to come in black funeral attire. This action involves no risk of arrest. Numbers limited to allow social distancing;  Kingston venue details provided by email close to the day. (Please check your spam box if you do not receive a confirmation or reminder emails.)

Our Demands: - The government must tell the truth about the climate crisis. - It must act now to halt biodiversity loss and reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2025. - The process of change must be led by a citizen's assembly on climate and ecological justice.

Extinction Rebellion ACT acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land on which Canberra is situated, the Ngunnawal and Ngambri people. We wish to recognise and respect their continuing connection to the land and water, and the contribution they make to the life of this city and this region. Their sovereignty was never ceded. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging. We would also like to acknowledge other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who may visit this area.
